Day 56 - Meeting Up with Asen
Last time I was here in Beijing I met this crazy Aussie who happened to be the head karate coach for China, and is an absolute beast. Haven’t seen the homie since April, so it was great to meet up. Good dude, always positive, and fun to be around. Took the whole evening to catch up and had some awesome conversations about life, books, finances, and whatever subjects we could think of. He’s adopted a similar mindset to me when it comes to this job, and finding ways of learning during our free time as much as possible.
One funny moment from dinner, was us realizing that we didn’t bring enough cash with us for it. We tried scrambling to get enough money, but it wasn’t enough. Even tried looking for an ATM, but it didn’t work with foreign debit cards. Asen had to run back to campus to get some cash before we could leave. One of the great mysteries of living in China is figuring out how it’s so hard for me to give a business here my money. I understand their is credit card fees, but charge a bit more and take my money, pretty please.
After snapping some portraits and saying good bye, I realized that I still needed to take a few more photos, so went back out to the street. There was a bus stop next to the hotel where the lighting made for an interesting composition.
