New Opportunities.
It’s been well over a year since I posted a new written blog. Honestly can’t believe how much has changed in such a short timeframe. My last post was about the Olympic Qualifiers in Mammoth where I was honestly frustrated. Moving on from that contest we went into X Games, and following that. I started to truly mix it up. First by hopping on board the Samuel Adams Tour for the rest of the spring which was honestly a god-send. After not making the Olympics, and stressing out over contests, it was so needed to have fun with my skiing again.
Following the month or so on the tour, I decided to take a break from skiing and start doing school. Spending the majority of my time in Austria, then coming back home to Spokane to be with family. I can honestly say this entire year was the most I haven’t skied since I started this journey of being a pro-skier. While time shredding is always fun, it was a great year to reflect, learn, and spend time with those closest to you.
Easily one of the most special things I got to do was take a fishing trip up to Alaska with my Poppie. I can promise you, if you ever get the chance to meet him, you’ll never meet a younger 85 year-old in your life. Which such passion for life and grabbing opportunity by the horns, the simplest of conversations will have you excited and ready to take on life’s new challenges and opportunities.
Speaking of which, the biggest life change came to me last summer with the opportunity to help coach a National Team. Thanks to the buddy Brad Prosser for offering me an opportunity like this, I decided to take the position and expand the horizons. Although extremely nervous about it, nothing made me feel calmer about the opportunity then sharing it with family, friends, and amazing people who’ve continuously been a support along the way.
Starting off in September, I flew over with my good friend and coach Ted Goggin to help select the next round of athletes. This was both of our first times in China, along with skiing inside a giant refrigerator. Although our trip was a brief three days, we made the most out of it. Including one early morning hike to see a piece of the great wall, and a giant Budda carved out of the mountain.
The rest of the fall I spent my time with family for some weddings & then back over to Austria with the girlfriend before beginning my new job in November.
Part 2 arriving soon.
