Day 53 - Uluwatu Temple

We had a very relaxing morning in Uluwatu, eating breakfast, drinking plenty of coffee, and taking our time. As lunch got closer we left the room to head down to the pool. In the elevator, we found a sign for a group to go to the Uluwatu Temple. While the hotel group ended being booked out, we decided that since it was the last evening in Bali for me & Sabine, we decided to go for it.

The Uluwatu Temple which is about 1,000 years old, sits right on the edge of 70m cliffs (229 feet) overlooking the ocean, with monkeys running wherever they please. Sabine and I both found it interesting to see the architecture down here. Knowing that if this was something like a European church, it would be some huge building. The temple here though wasn’t very tall at all, but wide and low. When asked about why, a local told me, “They did it to leave more room for the natural beauty surrounding them”. Thankful to be able to take in the beautiful views like this to end our trip.
